Scandic Landvetter: Precision-crafted art from floor to ceiling

Located at Göteborg Landvetter Airport, Scandic Landvetter is the airport’s first hotel and the second-largest airport hotel in Sweden. The seven-storey building features more than 200 rooms, a range of flexible meeting facilities and a sauna area where guests can relax while watching aircraft take off and land on the runway.

The hotel entrance catches the eye of travellers passing through the airport. Its atmospheric lobby invites visitors to take a closer look at its striking focal point: a work of art composed of 36,000 photographs.

Precision-crafted art from floor to ceiling

Scandic Landvetter stands out from the crowd, both inside and out. The striking interior and exterior cladding was designed by the renowned Swedish architectural firm Wingårdhs. The interior features Puucomp Premium interior cladding panels and ArborLine slat elements.

The lobby features a floor-to-ceiling artwork that, when viewed from a distance, resembles a landscape seen through an aeroplane window. Up close, the image reveals an extraordinary detail: it is made up entirely of tiny holiday photographs!

Created by Puucomp, this installation comprises 36,000 photographs printed directly onto laminate-faced interior cladding panels using digital printing technology. The panels are also finished with almost invisible 'R005 Nano' perforations to improve acoustic performance.

With a diameter of just approximately 0.5 mm, the acoustic perforations are exceptionally small. The holes are spaced 2 mm apart horizontally and 1.75 mm apart vertically.

In addition to the artwork, ArborLine slat elements feature on the lobby ceilings and walls. The wall-mounted slats create an elegant diagonal pattern, adding depth and visual interest to the interior.

The restaurant walls, in turn, feature distinctive blue and blue-grey Puucomp Premium wood veneer panels with nanoperforations. Their design complements the patterns created by the slat elements in the lobby, bringing a cohesive visual theme to the hotel's interior.

Complementary colours enhance one another. The wall features Puucomp Premium interior cladding panels in deep shades of blue.

The new Scandic Landvetter hotel was also designed in accordance with the BREEAM SE (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) certification scheme, with a target rating of Very Good.

Using wood veneer also helps conserve timber resources. A single tree can yield up to 800 m² of wood veneer. This makes it possible for us to use even exotic wood species in our panels while offering a wide selection of finishes with environmental considerations in mind.
